Our Facilities
The Y’s fully-equipped golf training facility features three simulator bays plus putting mats. Our facility also features:
High-Tech Equipment: Play on world-renowned courses with accurate ball tracking and swing analysis. Simulator will be set up by a golf professional.
Customizable Settings: Adjust for skill levels and preferences for a tailored session.
Comfort and Convenience: Enjoy climate-controlled surroundings and seating for spectators. Bathrooms available within the space.

Meet the Team
Orlando Peace, PGA, Director of Community Golf, has been impacting the lives of youth for over 30 years. Prior to moving to Aquidneck Island in 2016 he was a mentor, a coach, a paraprofessional and worked with a wide range of youth, including at-risk kids in New London, Connecticut. He was inspired to bring golf to life for youth that wouldn’t otherwise have access to the game, and in 2021 was hired to do so by FabNewport as an extension of their experiential learning offerings. Through Orlando’s vision, commitment, and three-year success with FabGolf, FabNewport was awarded Rhode Island’s only First Tee chapter, located in Middletown and made possible with the generous donation of space by Sean Napolitano, owner of A1 Roofing and Construction. With 150 chapters in the United States, the First Tee is a national youth development organization that enables kids to build the strength of character and empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with life skills curriculum, First Tee chapters create active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that kids can carry into everything they do in life.
Orlando has also collaborated with Green Valley Country Club to build accessible youth programs. With the support of PGA Head professional Gary Dorsi and owner Ron Raposa, Green Valley C.C. now hosts a PGA Jr. League site. PGA Jr. League is the flagship youth program of the PGA of America’s 501 (c)(3) foundation, PGA REACH. Through this inclusive program, Coach Orlando brings kids together to experience golf in a culture of belonging.
Orlando has a passion for the game of golf and all that it offers. Orlando has not only coached and introduced the technical aspects of golf to Aquidneck Island youth, but has developed programs which build character, instill essential life skills and life enhancing values, support career exploration, promote healthy choices, and help evolve kids into future leaders and good citizens within their communities. In May of 2024, Orlando became a PGA Golf Professional, joining a group of less than 196 African Americans out of 30,000 golf professionals in the world. He continues his quest to expand opportunities and access to the game of golf, and has joined the Newport County YMCA to do just that.
Shelby Hibbert is a YGolf Assistant Coach, working with a variety of programs including PGA Junior League, LPGA Girls Golf, and YGolf Ladies’ Nights.
She has worked as a golf coach in the greater Newport area for the last five years while attending Salve Regina University, where she completed both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Criminal Justice.
A multi-sport athlete, she has been playing golf since she was ten years old, along with soccer, basketball, and tennis.
Grace Acton is the Assistant Site Director for the LPGA*USGA Girls Golf – Newport County YMCA chapter.
She played NCAA Division III collegiate golf at Bates College, where she was a 2023 NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team selection and a 3-time NESCAC All-Academic Team selection.
Prior to joining the Newport YMCA team, she coached junior golf camps at Riverside Golf Course in Portland, ME and Quail Ridge Country Club in Acton, MA, and volunteered in family-based STEM education programs at the Lewiston, ME elementary schools.
Golf+ Membership
Experience the ultimate in virtual golfing with our state-of-the-art golf simulator! Whether you’re looking to perfect your swing, enjoy a friendly game, or simply practice in any weather, this 90-minute rental provides a realistic and immersive golfing experience. Please note that each individual must book their own reservation. 8 reservations are allowed per 90 minute rental with 2 simulator bays. Fee Structure and Options
- Golf+ All Access Monthly Fee- Family Rate $63/month, SP Family Rate $57/month, Individual $46/month – Includes unlimited reservation bookings at no additional cost + one clinic/month with the Y Community Golf Director, Orlando Peace, PGA professional. Must be a YMCA Member.
- YMCA Member Price- To be paid upon arrival $35/person/90 minute session
- Nonmember Price- To be paid upon arrival $45/person/90 minute session (Please arrive 15 minutes prior to tee time to arrange a guest pass/waiver).
Junior PGA
Our Junior PGA program provides young golfers with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of golf while emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership. Participants receive professional instruction, engage in friendly competitions, and gain the confidence to excel both on and off the course.
As part of the nation-wide PGA Junior League competition program, we compete against other Junior PGA teams from across New England. In matches, players compete in a 2-person scramble format: both players hit every shot, decide which ball is in a better position, and play their next shot from there. This allows young players to play every shot in 9-hole rounds of golf, while being more forgiving of the stray shots and mishits that are part of learning to play golf. It also teaches the life skills of teamwork and persistence alongside the golf tournament essentials of course management, club selection, and strategy.
Registration Information
Registration for Junior PGA is completed through the PGA Jr. League website and is divided into two age groups: 13U (players aged 13 and under) and 17U (players aged 14-17). The initial cost of registration includes a $120 annual PGA Jr. League membership.
LPGA*USGA Girls Golf
Welcome to the LPGA*USGA Girls Golf – Newport, R.I. Chapter!
We are Rhode Island’s only golf program developed specifically for girls ages 5-16. The LPGA*USGA Girls Golf program has successfully engaged ONE MILLION GIRLS in the sport of golf; now we’re striving to reach #OneMillionMORE! Our guiding principles are the 5 E’s of Girls Golf, which allow us to:
Engage girls with positive female role models and mentors.
Exercise girls’ minds and bodies, helping them unlock their full potential.
Energize girls with a passion for the game of golf.
Enrich girls’ lives by expanding their minds and horizons.
Empower girls with confidence and inspire them to dream BIG!
What We Do
We provide instruction and opportunities for friendly competition in an accessible, welcoming environment for girls of all skill levels and abilities. During our weekly practice, we focus in on golf essentials, but our main goal is to keep golf FUN! Our practice facilities at the Newport YMCA and Green Valley Country Club facilitate both individualized instruction and group activities! Some of our favorite games are putting tic-tac-toe, long drive contests, and closest-to-the-pin chipping.
Competition Opportunities
Girls Golf program participants have multiple opportunities throughout the year to compete in different formats.
- Drive, Chip, and Putt: We encourage all of our junior golfers to participate in the nation-wide Drive, Chip, and Putt contest! This unique competition format tests essential golf skills. Participants earn points separately in the drive, chip, and putt categories, and scoring is separated by age group. With opportunities to advance through our local qualifier to sub-regional, regional, and eventually a televised national competition, the Drive, Chip, and Putt program is accessible to everyone from beginner golfers to experienced competition players.
- Team Matches: As one chapter in a network of over 500 Girls Golf sites, we have a wide pool of competitors for team-based matches. Similar to the Junior PGA match format, participants will compete in 2-person teams and be matched against a pair of players of a similar age and experience level.
- Individual Tournaments: As our players gain more experience with on-course play and competition golf, we will advertise opportunities for players to compete in local tournaments through the RI Golf Association and New England PGA Junior Tour.
Youth Clinics
Birdie Golf – Ages 5-8
Our Birdie introductory clinic is a fun, engaging introduction to the basics of golf tailored for young children.
The primary goal of this program is to make the sport enjoyable and accessible for young children by teaching foundational skills in a playful, supportive environment. Our experienced instructors emphasize the core values of sportsmanship and etiquette, teaching participants to respect fellow players and the course.
Through engaging activities and friendly competitions, kids will learn the importance of teamwork and collaboration, fostering friendships that extend beyond the green. This unique indoor clinic utilizes state-of-the-art golf simulators, allowing participants to practice their swings and play virtual courses regardless of weather conditions.
Ready, Set, Golf! – Ages 8-12
The Ready, Set, Golf! program welcomes children ages 8-12 to an unforgettable journey from YGolf simulators to the lush green grass of the Green Valley Country Club. We believe that every child deserves the chance to enjoy the beauty of golf in nature! Our dedicated team will ensure your child develops the skills needed to transition smoothly from the indoor golf experience to the outdoor environment.
Your budding golfer will also have the opportunity to prepare for the prestigious Drive, Chip and Putt competition, held annually at the Button Hole golf training facility in East Providence. This is a fantastic chance for participants at any level to highlight their skills and passion for golf, and is a great introduction to the world of competitive golf.. Adult Clinics
Our adult clinics offer instruction for golfers of all levels to improve their golf fundamentals. These clinics focus on key aspects of the game, including:

Ladies’ Night!
New to golf, working on your game, or just looking for a supportive group of women to play with over the winter? Join our winter Ladies’ Night group!
Ladies’ Night is an opportunity to play simulator golf with the support of YGolf coaches, making it a great place to start for players with some experience who have not played on a simulator before. This is not a league or a traditional clinic – it’s just like playing a casual round with your friends, with the added bonus of individualized coaching.
Adaptive Golf
Adaptive golf clinics are inclusive sessions designed for individuals with disabilities to enjoy the sport in a supportive environment. Please contact Orlando if you or someone you know are interested in joining our Adaptive Golf group!
