TWICE AS NICE
Twice As Nice Early Learning Center is a RI DHS licensed early childhood education program with a certification through BrightStars, Rhode Island’s tiered quality rating and improvement system. Through their star rating system, BrightStars helps childcare programs to learn about best practices and apply them to the care children receive. BrightStars also recognizes program quality, gives parents information to make choices about their children’s care and education, and helps families in Rhode Island access high quality child care.
Our program offers reliable, responsible childcare and authentic, age-appropriate learning opportunities for children from toddlerhood through pre-kindergarten, allowing families to go to work knowing their child is in a safe, rewarding environment. Through our program, toddlers are encouraged to develop trust and security through a consistent routine and expand their social and emotional development, as well as their autonomy and confidence. Preschoolers begin to engage more with their peers and learn how to relate to and respect one another, all while developing skills that are essential for kindergarten and beyond. Through our Y Core Values (caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility), our staff work to help your child reach their fullest potential.
Our staff are carefully selected to provide a nurturing, stimulating learning environment that promotes developmentally appropriate practices. Our teachers implement a comprehensive, research-based curriculum carefully designed to provide a rich academic foundation and foster child creativity and independence. We believe every family – no matter their income or socioeconomic status – deserves access to knowledgeable, compassionate teachers and staff.
Our program also encourages consistent, meaningful communication between staff and families. One of the tools we utilize to accomplish this is Brightwheel, the #1 childcare software that enables educators to centralize and send real-time messages, emergency alerts, photos and updates, and newsletters from a single platform.
All Twice As Nice staff complete Praesidium child abuse trainings prior to working with children and are required to become CPR/First Aid certified within 90 days of employment. Staff must also pass a BCI, DHS clearance, and complete a minimum of 24 hours of approved professional development each year.
YMCA membership is not required to participate in any of our childhood education programs. However, a family or single parent family membership through the Newport County YMCA offers many benefits, including a discounted rate for tuition.
Twice As Nice Early Learning Center offers academic year or year-round enrollment and options include 2 days (T,Th), 3 days (M,W,F) or 5 days. Hours of operation are 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.

TODDLERS – Ages 18 mos-3 years
With safety at the forefront, the toddler program promotes the child’s innate curiosity of the world around them, and the drive towards independence. Our classroom and outdoor experiences help toddlers to develop self-control, cooperation, and communication skills, and are aligned with the Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards (RIELDS). Our teachers use these standards to guide the curriculum and inform families about learning and development milestones. Our toddlers sing songs, and through play, learn to count and identify colors and shapes, follow simple instructions, and discover the world around them.
PRESCHOOL/PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Ages 3-5 (must be fully potty trained)
Our preschool/pre-k curriculum is intentional, meaningfully planned, and aligns with the Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards (RIELDS). Our typical preschool day allows time for small and large group activities, both indoors and out, and is guided by the interests and abilities of the children. While our program believes in a hands-on, play based approach to learning, there is intentionality behind each change to the environment, activity, and lesson that the teachers plan. Every day activities include creative arts, literature, music and movement, and math and sciences, and are meant to help children develop a strong foundation for successful learning well beyond their preschool years.
Coming in September 2024…Infant Program (6 weeks-18 months)
Choosing a childcare program is a big decision. Here at Twice As Nice, we are dedicated to making the first transition from home to center-based care a positive experience for you and your child. Our staff understands the importance of a warm, nurturing environment in which infants are encouraged to explore the world around them in safe, developmentally appropriate ways, both indoors and out. Our infant teachers provide authentic experiences that not only provide opportunities for socialization and learning, but also create a solid foundation for success as your infant grows. Each classroom is designed to help infants reach developmental milestones, while maintaining flexibility based on the needs of each individual child.
