SERVING MORE KIDS

CHILD CARE EXPANSION AND RENOVATIONS

Child care and preschool programs play a critical part in the success of both children and their parents. Pre-K programs lead to better outcomes for children both in school and the years beyond. For families, access to high quality, reliable and affordable child care is a game changer. For parents to work outside the home, especially in a full-time capacity, they need to know their children will be well cared for.

Our current childcare facility has served the community well for over 30 years. We are committed to serving the next generation. An expansion and renovations to our Twice as Nice Child Care will provide an affordable, safe, and accessible environment where all children will receive high quality care to help them learn, grow, and thrive. Children and families will also benefit from positive relationships between people of different backgrounds, fostering a greater appreciation of community and diversity.

Most important: we will greatly increase the number of children we can care for, supporting families and providing kids with building blocks for life

A CRITICAL NEED FOR CARE

  • There is a lack of affordable high-quality child care in Newport County – especially for infants and toddlers. Young families are struggling to find a place where they know their child will be well cared for.
  • Children who begin kindergarten without adequate preparation struggle to perform on par with their peers.
  • Our program is currently at capacity and 40 children are on the wait list.

CURRENT CAPACITY 50 CHILDREN

NEW CAPACITY 130 CHILDREN INCLUDING INFANTS

WHILE THE PROGRAM CURRENTLY ACCEPTS AND ENCOURAGES FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN OF DIFFERING NEEDS, THE Y BELIEVES THIS NEWLY RENOVATED, INTENTIONALLY DESIGNED CENTER, WILL MAKE ALL FAMILIES FEEL MORE WELCOME AND VALUED.

GROWING OUR CAPACITY TO SERVE

Renovation and expansion plans include:

• Complete renovation and expansion of current childcare center
• New multi-purpose room/parent resource space
• New classrooms: 2 infant, 2 toddler, 3 preschool/preK
• Private bathrooms for each classroom
• New ADA compliant entrance and parking
• Kitchen and laundry
• Renovation of all mechanical systems
• New, larger parking lot with additional safety features

TOGETHER, WE WILL CREATE A MORE USABLE, FLEXIBLE, AND ACCESSIBLE SPACE FOR THE CHILDREN WE SERVE. THE RENOVATED FACILITY WILL ALLOW THE Y TO PROVIDE IMPROVED QUALITY CHILDCARE PROGRAMING AND SERVICES TO THE NEWPORT COUNTY COMMUNITY. THIS PROJECT WILL BENEFIT LOCAL FAMILIES REGARDLESS OF FINANCIAL STATUS, AND PROVIDE A SAFE, NURTURING ENVIRONMENT FOR THEIR CHILDREN.

Not only are we expanding to serve more children, but we must ensure our program is available to all families, regardless of their financial circumstances.

KIND OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

YOU CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN

Total project costs are $4,000,000.

A recent grant of $3,000,000 from Rhode Island Early Childhood Care and Education Capital Fund was a major catalyst in making this dream a reality.

Today, we seek $1,000,000 in philanthropic support from the
community to expand our capacity to serve more children and families.

“I am so grateful I can drop of my son each day and head to work, knowing he is being well cared for. And because it’s the Y, he also gets to swim and participate in sports. This has been a lifesaver for our family. I know he’ll be ready for Kindergarten next year because of the great teachers at the Y!”- Heather, childcare mom
