32nd Annual Pie Run Thanksgiving Day Race

The Newport County YMCA hosted the 32nd Annual Pie Run on Thanksgiving Day Thursday, November 23, 2017. The race, originally founded by the Newport Running Club, collected donations for the MLK Center as well as raising money for local charities in Newport County. With over 1,500 walkers and runners, beautiful weather and a supportive team of volunteers, the event was a wonderful success.

The Thanksgiving Day tradition starts promptly at 8:30AM. The 5-mile USATF sanctioned road race, and 3-mile non-competitive walk/jog, starts and ends in front of the Newport County YMCA at 792 Valley Road, Middletown.

“The Newport County YMCA is grateful to our sponsors, Saccucci Honda, OceanPointe Christian Church, Savings Institute Bank and Trust, Minuteman Press and Run Newport. Without the support of these community leaders, the event would not have been such a success. We are also grateful to all our volunteers as well as participants. This holiday tradition brings our community together while honoring one of the Y’s core values of health and wellness. Due to the success of the event we can now support other local charities. The Y was able to donate over 18 cases of non-perishable food to the MLK Center due to donations made by race participants. We look forward to continuing this tradition for years to come,” Mike Miller, CEO, Newport County YMCA.
