PROGRAMS : Outdood Leadership Center Team Development

Conveniently located just minutes from downtown Newport, Rhode Island, our Outdoor Leadership Center is an ideal setting to explore chalenges and invest in an environment designed to enhance commitment, collaboration and overall success of your organization.

Ropes Course Events are exceptional ways for people to build trust, build confidence, overcome fears or challenges, strengthen bonds and have a fun and exciting experience. With proper guidance from our expert facilitators, your group will learn, grow, and bond in ways that are not possible in everyday situations. Participants will get to know each other through a variety of games and initiatives. They will learn to work together to achieve common goals under challenging circumstances.

Expertly trained leaders guide your group through the event, custom tailoring your experience based on the needs of your group and the needs of each individual participant. Low Ropes Events are all designed to foster communication, breakdown barriers, build trust, develop problem-solving skills, and create an exciting and fun experience. After each event or initiative the group will be challenged to evaluate all aspects of the experience from the technical aspects of how and what they were doing (and how they could have done better) to the ways in which they were communicating (or not communicating) to the ways the experience made each participant feel (and why). This is a core aspect of experiential teambuilding. Telling people something is often of little use. Showing them something allows them to begin believing. First hand experience, doing and experiencing something is the best way to ensure true understanding. Sharing an intense positive experience with others produces an emotional bond and increases levels of trust and respect.

Your program will be designed to ease each participant through a progression of elements, creating a sense of trust through interdependent experiences.

Your team will be facilitated through elements geared toward various learning objectives and will focus on:

  • Goal Setting
  • Leadership
  • Support
  • Commitment
  • Fun
  • Mutual Trust
  • Motivation
  • Confidence
  • Talent Spotting
  • Communication
  • Coaching
  • Time Management
  • Celebration
Icebreakers will emphasize trust as the foundation for productive collaboration by challenging participants to build relationships and develop team commitments through identifying, respecting, and stretching each other’s “comfort zones”.
The Low Ropes & Team Initiatives provide the group with a situation or problem that will encourage the group to engage in various forms of communication and shared responsibilities in order to achieve shared success using limited resources.
The High Ropes courses and Climbing Wall are approximately 45 feet high and are designed to incorporate spirited interaction with a high impact experience. The risk of High Ropes is mostly a perceived risk as our facilitators ensure each climber and participant are fully briefed on the safety procedures of group belay.

Our Team is made up of highly trained professional facilitators who can deliver debriefing sessions to review what your group has learned and how these skills transfer into the workplace. Our instructors are experienced in adventure based learning and are committed to role-modeling positive values.

In our approach to facilitating memorable experiences, every participant is encouraged to respect each others’ individual comfort zones. This is the Challenge by Choice philosophy, and it enables each participant to determine their own level of physical involvement during the program so that the entire team can achieve shared successes in a positive learning environment.

All courses and programs can be tailored to meet your requirements, and your timetable. Weekend, mid week or week long courses can be arranged. Our Program offers opportunities for rapid and effective team building. As participants learn to rely on each other in an outdoor adventure context, a sense of camaraderie develops that focuses the team members on the goals of themselves and the group.

SCHOOL GROUPS benefit by building self-confidence and esteem. Ropes courses help bring a class together by providing a shared experience. Students will build bonds, friendships, and leadership skills.

FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS build lifelong memories as they explore and overcome their fears and discover unknown sources of courage. Families find new avenues for sharing and communication. These activities foster support, openness, and encourage strong family values.

AT RISK YOUTH build confidence and self esteem as they learn valuable communication and team work skills. These skills are essential for improving decision making and goal setting. By pushing their limits, participants grow beyond their perceived limitations. These courses have proven positive outcomes for gang intervention, abused children, and adjudicated youth.

PROFESSIONALS, BUSINESSES AND CORPORATIONS can use these valuable programs to increase productivity, inter-departmental communication, and employee loyalty. Team building and ropes courses are appropriate for all ages and abilities and can be integrated into a relaxing retreat or facilitated as an intensive training program.

Our Challenge Ropes Course/Low Ropes Fixed Initiatives/Climbing Tower were designed and constructed by High Five Adventure.
