General Information
- Adult members, single parent members
and family members' children may use the Treehouse.
You MAY NOT bring in someone else's child; this includes
other members children. Parents must sign in/out their
own children. We abide by this rule as a safety consideration;
if the child is ever hurt, the parent or legal guardian
is the only person who may grant medical attention.
- We suggest that when coming to the
Treehouse for the first time, you visit and play with
the child for at least 20 minutes before leaving,
especially if you are a parent of a young child. This
will help to make your child feel more comfortable
with the room and the Y staff when you leave. Children
must be 6 weeks of age to participate. We will also
ask you to fill out a child information sheet.
- Due to the popularity of the Treehouse,
the consideration of other members and the wellbeing
of your child, we ask that you limit your child's
time to the following:
6 weeks to 6 months- 1 hour
7 months to 11 months- 1 1/2 hour
1 to 10 years old - 2 hours
These guidelines are from the YMCA of the USA and
are based upon age appropriate needs.
- Please have your child arrive in a
clean diaper before bringing them into the Treehouse.
Based on the health and safety regulations, we do
not change diapers. If the child needs a diaper change,
we will locate the parent. Please make every effort
to come quickly to the room. Leaving an infant/child
in a soiled diaper can cause a terrible rash and makes
for an uncomfortable situation for all.
- The children have snack time in the
morning and afternoon. Reminder: small snacks that
can cause choking are not allowed; i.e. popcorn, nuts,
lollipops, and other hard candy. Any snack containing
peanuts (i.e. peanut butter) and strawberries are
not allowed due to possible allergic reaction. To
help foster good nutrition at the YMCA we ask that
you bring a healthy snack for your child. Some suggestions:
fruit, yogurt, whole grain crackers, pretzels, cheese
and granola bars.
Please note: If your child brings an apple, please
peel before you arrive. Also, grapes need to be cut
in half.
- Please mark all personal belongings.
- We have plenty to choose from while
your child is with us, so please do not bring personal
toys or games from home. This can cause conflicts
with other children and we are not responsible for
lost or damaged items. Also some toys may not be age
appropriate and pose serious risks to other children
in the Treehouse.
- Parents must remain in the building
while your child is participating in the Treehouse
Program. Going outdoors for a run is strictly prohibited;
In the even that we need to locate you.
- The lateness policy is as follows:
lateness will be tolerated three times. After the
third incident your time in the Treehouse will be
reduced by 15 minutes. Habitual lateness may cause
you to lose Treehouse privileges, as this is not fair
to other members.
Tree

Treehouse

to the Treehouse program, we will make every effort

vomiting and diarrhea, please keep your child home.

than diaper rash) will not be permitted to stay in
the Treehouse. If your child has a rash, please bring
in a doctors not stating that the child may be in
day care.
- Children displaying inappropriate behavior
will receive an age appropriate time out from their
activity. Staff will inform parents if this situation
occurs and will work with you to prevent future incidents.
The
Newport County YMCA adheres to three
basic discipline guidelines:
- Discipline should focus on the expected,
appropriate behavior rather than the inappropriate
behavior.
- The objective of staff should be to
instruct rather than to criticize.
- Discipline is a process of learning
and positive reinforcement.
Our staff will strive to nurture individual character
by teaching the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect
and responsibility.
